• Welcome to Churchill Junior High School

    August 19, 2020

Dear Churchill Junior High School Community,

I hope this letter finds you and your family staying healthy, safe, and enjoying summer.  My name is Matthew Hanas and I would like to introduce myself to you as the Principal of Churchill Junior High School.  Mr. Sutor and I are working closely together through this transition period as he will be retiring in the near future.  I want to thank him for his dedicated leadership and service to the East Brunswick School District and Churchill Junior High School.

Previously, I had the privilege to serve as an assistant principal and prior to that as a teacher of mathematics both at East Brunswick High School.  I am very proud to have the opportunity to work as an educator in East Brunswick and to uphold the traditions of excellence in the academics, the arts, athletics, and atmosphere.

I believe that communication with all stakeholders is a key link for supporting your child’s education.  You can expect regular messaging, via phone, email, or video formats from the school.  Additional information will be provided over the course of the next week with regards to the timeline for the release of student schedules, student devices and material distribution, bell schedules, student orientation, and orientation to technology software that will support your child’s education.

The Churchill Junior High School team is excited to share several exciting initiatives and changes for the upcoming school year including:

    • The roll-out of a 1:1 student device initiative which will leverage technology such as Microsoft Teams, the Canvas Learning Management System, and other web-based software to support in-person and remote learners.
    • Additional social and emotional supports within the building for students with our partnership with Effective School Solutions.
    • Individual and group counseling opportunities provided by our school counseling and student assistance staff that will be available to both in-person and remote learners.
    • A new HVAC system that will provide enhanced climate control and air conditioning throughout the building.

Along with the grade level administrators, Ms. Dragonetti (8th grade) and Mr. Evanovich (9th grade), I want you to know that our staff is working hard to create a safe and healthy learning environment for all students.  In the coming weeks, you will see additional information being populated on our school website to help you support your child at home.  Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions.
