The Child Nutrition Department is responsible for the nutritional well-being of our students, which includes the East Brunswick Board of Education’s participation in the National School Lunch Program and the National School Breakfast Program. We plan and prepare food that is not only nutritious, but also appetizing and in compliance with all federal and state regulations and policies. Every school day, our dedicated staff serves approximately 3500 lunches. These meals are offered free and at a reduced price, to children who meet certain financial eligibility guidelines.

Free or Reduced Price Lunch
A child whose family size and family income are at or below guidelines set by the Department of Agriculture may be eligible for free or reduced price lunch. The reduced price for lunch at all schools is $0.40. Parents who do not apply in September may become eligible during the school year if circumstances change. In order for a lunch to qualify as a reimbursable meal, your child must take a fruit, 100% 4oz fruit juice or a vegetable.

An official notice of the child's eligibility will be sent to parents through parent access. Provisions are made for appeals in cases of disagreement. Verification of the applicant's eligibility may be required.Prepayment Information
As you know, our district operates a Point of Service System in the cafeteria at each school. There are two ways to deposit funds:
1. Online Payments: Parents/Guardians are strongly encouraged to utilize this method since it is fast, easy, and safe. In order to deposit funds into the account, parents/guardians must create an online account for each child at www.myschoolbucks.com and follow the procedures there. You will be required to supply your child's student identification number and the first initial of the student's first and last names. There is a transaction fee collected online to use this method of payment.
2. Student Payments: Parents/Guardians who do not utilize the online system to deposit funds may provide cash, check or money order payable to "East Brunswick Public Schools", which must be sent in with your child and given to the cashier during lunch.

East Brunswick Charge Meal Policy
In cases where the meal account has insufficient funds, the student will be permitted to charge up to four regular meals. A phone call will be sent via Blackboard for the first three times the student receives an IOU, on the fourth IOU the parent will receive an email directly from Child Nutrition.
After the fourth meal the student will receive an alternate meal of either a sun butter & jelly sandwich or a cheese sandwich with milk and a fruit or vegetable. The alternate meal meets the nutritional requirements of the National School Lunch Program. Parents/guardians will be held responsible for paying the past due amount. Funds and negative balances remaining in the student’s meal account at the end of the school year will be carried over to the next school year.

Meal Account Balance Information
Student Meal Account Balances are managed in accordance with Board of Education Regulation 8500, Part F, which requires that all meal account balances remaining at fiscal year end be carried over for use during the next school year.
The parent/guardian of any student who permanently leaves the district may request in writing that 1) the student’s account be closed and any remaining funds be refunded, or 2) the funds be transferred to another sibling’s account. All requests must include the student’s identification number and be received by the Child Nutrition Department no later than June 30 of the year in which the student leaves the district in order to be honored.
Written requests may be forwarded to “East Brunswick Public Schools, Child Nutrition Department, POS Refund, 760 Route 18, East Brunswick, NJ 08816” or via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
