The Child Nutrition Department is responsible for the nutritional well-being of our students, which includes the East Brunswick Board of Education’s participation in the National School Lunch Program and the National School Breakfast Program. We plan and prepare food that is not only nutritious, but also appetizing and in compliance with all federal and state regulations and policies. Every school day, our dedicated staff serves approximately 3500 lunches. These meals are offered free and at a reduced price, to children who meet certain financial eligibility guidelines.

you know, our district operates a Point of Service System in the
cafeteria at each school. There are two ways to deposit funds:
1. Online Payments: Parents/Guardians are strongly encouraged to utilize this method since it is fast, easy, and safe. In order to deposit funds into the account, parents/guardians must create an online account for each child at www.myschoolbucks.com and follow the procedures there. You will be required to supply your child's student identification number and the first initial of the student's first and last names. There is a transaction fee collected online to use this method of payment.
2. Student Payments: Parents/Guardians who do not utilize the online system to deposit funds may provide cash, check or money order payable to "East Brunswick Public Schools", which must be sent in with your child and given to the cashier during lunch.

Cash will be accepted at the register for individual meal and ala carte purchases.
cases where the meal account has insufficient funds, the student will
be permitted to charge up to three regular meals. After the third meal students will receive an alternate meal. However,
parents/guardians will be held responsible for paying the amount owed.
Funds remaining in the student’s meal account at the end of the school
year will be carried over to the next school year.

Parents Quick Reference Guide
Free or Reduced Price Lunch - A child whose family size and family income are at or below guidelines set by the Department of Agriculture may be eligible for free or reduced price lunch. The reduced price for lunch at all schools is $0.40. Information is sent to all parents in September and should be returned to the school at that time. Parents who do not apply in September may become eligible during the school year if circumstances change. An official notice of the child's eligibility with be sent to parents. Provisions are made for appeals in cases of disagreement. Verification of the applicant's eligibility may be required.
In order for a lunch to qualify as a reimbursable meal, your child must take a fruit, 100% 4 oz fruit juice or a vegetable.

Free and Reduced Price School Meals
MEAL ACCOUNT BALANCES
Student Meal Account Balances are managed in accordance with Board of Education Regulation 8500, Part F, which requires that all meal account balances remaining at fiscal year end be carried over for use during the next school year.
The parent/guardian of any student who permanently leaves the district may request in writing that 1) the student’s account be closed and any remaining funds be refunded, or 2) the funds be transferred to another sibling’s account. All requests must include the student’s identification number and be received by the Child Nutrition Department no later than June 30 of the year in which the student leaves the district in order to be honored.
Written requests may be forwarded to “East Brunswick Public Schools, Child Nutrition Department, POS Refund, 760 Route 18, East Brunswick, NJ 08816” or via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Funds will be disbursed in accordance with the district’s bill list schedule.
Lunch Menus - Menus
are designed to provide one-third of the USDA's Recommended Daily
Allowance for a healthy eleven-year-old child, with adjustments for
different ages. Total calories from fat are kept at the 30 percent
level, with ten percent from saturated fat. More grains, fresh fruits
and vegetables have been added to the menus to meet nutritional goals
and increase consumption of fibers and vitamins.
