Our Schools, Staff and Community
East Brunswick Public Schools is nationally recognized for excellence, and is an Equal Opportunity Employer with a strong commitment to diversity and equity, which requires a robust recruitment plan and succession planning. Our State-approved Affirmative Action Plan outlines the steps we take to recruit from a rich candidate pool and our commitment to professional growth and development.
Our Schools
Approximately 8,300 students in pre-school through twelfth grade are enrolled in East Brunswick Public Schools. Our nine elementary schools serve children in pre-school through sixth grade. Our two secondary schools include Churchill Junior High School for seventh, eighth and ninth graders and East Brunswick High School for students in grades ten through twelve. We have a world-class tuition-based Early Learning Academy for 3 and 4 year olds housed in a number of our elementary schools, and a comprehensive before and after-care program serving grades K - 6.
The outstanding faculty and staff, talented students, comprehensive curriculum and wide variety of extracurricular activities are the major factors in the school district's achievement of Excellence in Academics, Athletics, the Arts and Atmosphere. Students consistently score higher than national and state averages on standardized tests, including the Scholastic Aptitude Test. In 2018, the average scores of East Brunswick High School seniors were 550 on the critical thinking SAT and 593 on the mathematics SAT and 556 on the writing section. Students also earn high ratings on AP Tests and in county, regional and state competitions in a variety of areas, including language arts, foreign languages, mathematics, music, science, social studies and the visual arts.
Bowne-Munro, Chittick, Irwin, Lawrence Brook, Hammarskjold, Churchill Junior High School and East Brunswick High School have each been designated as a National School of Excellence/Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Frost, Central and Memorial Schools have received the Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School of Excellence Award. In addition, East Brunswick High School was named the best high school in New Jersey and one of the 51 best in the nation by Redbook magazine.
Our Staff
The Superintendent of Schools is supported by an Assistant Superintendent of Academics, an Assistant Superintendent for Student Activities/Services, and an Assistant Superintendent/Business Administrator.
Central administrators, principals, program supervisors, department chairpersons and staff work cooperatively in the development of curriculum and instructional services. School library/media specialists and certified nurses also serve each of our schools. Special teachers for art, music, physical education, reading and math work at all levels to promote student success. Student Assistance Specialists serve as HIB specialists and serve specialized groups of students and "at risk" students at all grade levels.
Our Special Education staff includes teachers, psychologists, social workers, learning disability teacher consultants, behaviorists and speech/language clinicians. A Chief Information Officer heads our Information Technology Department, which provides support and maintenance for equipment in each school, as well as for the district's technological infrastructure that gives students and staff in all schools access to information from each other and from all over the world. In 2018, we launched a one-to-one initiative at EBHS, which later spread to students at CJHS, and then to all students in grades K - 6.
Our staff speak a variety of world languages in the home, and some staff serve the school community in a secondary role of translator. More than half of the approximately 720 member professional staff have advanced degrees. The Board of Education contributes to the professional development of all staff through the sponsorship of continuing education programs and in-service workshops during the school year and in the summer.
