- First Lady of the Foundation Grants - for undefined amounts that are more than a mini grant. This is the only grant category where the amount awarded is not defined. These grants will be awarded in the early springtime and announced at the Annual Partner in Excellence Dinner. Applicants are encouraged to consider the district’s goals and budget for the ensuing school year.
The Foundation’s mission is to enhance and enrich the curriculum for the students in the East Brunswick Public School District. Before writing and submitting a grant is important to note that the EBEF does not typically fund:
- Projects or programs that should otherwise be part of the district’s annual budget. For example, the Foundation believes that it is the district’s responsibility to provide the funds necessary to update software, texts, and any materials that are critical to imparting the curriculum.
- Transportation for field trips. While a request for tickets to a performance or a museum might be approved, transportation costs to said venue should not be included in the budget request and will not be awarded.
- The cost of food for trips or celebrations.
- The cost for awards for completing a project.
- Requests for professional development activities.
- More than two grants that are the same; it is the Foundation’s belief that once a project is funded twice, it should become part of the district budget.
- Furniture for teachers.
- Subscriptions:
- While grant committee guidelines allow us to consider funding a grant a second time, doing so is not automatic.
- If we receive multiple requests for the same subscription, the committee may feel that such a subscription should instead be considered for funding by the district.
- Consumable materials: While we may approve grants for equipment that have consumable materials associated with the equipment (ex. laminating machines), we will likely not fund the consumables on ongoing basis.
The Grants Committee and Purchasing
The Grants Committee’s Purchasing Arm is responsible for securing the majority of items requested in grants that are approved. Under no circumstances should a grant recipient make purchases and expect reimbursement for requested items.
- Caveats include:
- Approved grants that involve the purchase of technology and more sophisticated educational items or equipment will be funded by the EBEF, but will be purchased through the District’s Financial Services Department. This process will ensure that all warranties and guarantees apply.
- The EBEF treasurer will work directly with grantees who are awarded funds for presenters (i.e. authors, museum programs, etc.) to ensure that payments for services are available in a timely manner.
- Grant recipients are asked to follow-up with the Grants Committee when their projects commence as per below:
- For accounting purposes, email Lisa Ruggiero and Trish LaDuca upon receipt of the items that you requested.
- Share pictures of your project in action that may be used in future Foundation publicity. Send photos digitally to Trish LaDuca, Megan Fischer, Kari Grove, and COMMREL.
- Acknowledge the East Brunswick Education Foundation in communications with the educational community (parents/students/colleagues).
Online Grant Application Procedure
Please be sure to include the names of all team members who are involved in writing and/or imparting the project.
In addition to the grant application cover page, applicants must upload:
- A summary explaining the proposed project that includes:
- The goal for the project.
- The plan for implementing the project.
- How the project will enhance the curriculum.
- A budget, or breakdown, of expenditures that includes:
- Vendor Information, including links to requested items.
- To make this process more efficient, when choosing your vendors, please place all of your items into a cart and request a price quote. Price quotes will guarantee your price for a certain amount of time and help to make sure that you receive your requested materials in a timely manner.
- Price Quotes are available from most of the vendors you will order from, other than Amazon. This can usually be done by submitting your cart to the vendor. If you have any questions EBEF’s Purchasing Chair, Lisa Ruggiero will be happy to help.
- ISBN numbers when requesting books.
- Shipping and handling charges must be included in the total amount being requested. If this is not included, we will return for edits.

Revised August 2025
Grants Awarded 24-25
Grant Recipients 2024-2025
WE THE PEOPLE GRANT
With this grant, the Foundation matches amounts donated by outside donors in support of East Brunswick High School students’ participation in the National We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution Competition. East Brunswick High School - We the People National Competition Marc Mondry
Seniors enrolled in the AP United States Government and Politics course competed in the New Jersey We the People Competition where they earned the State Championship title and the opportunity to represent New Jersey at the national competition in Washington DC. This is the 37th out of a possible 38 times that the EBHS students have won this honor. EBEF funds will match those donated by supporters to defray the cost of the trip to DC.
BLUE RIBBON GRANTS
These grants are awarded annually, in the Fall, for grant requests between $2,500 and $7,500 for special projects or events of enduring value.
Bowne-Munro, Central, Chittick, Frost, Irwin, Lawrence Brook, Memorial, and Warnsdorfer Elementary Schools - Bringing Beginning Instrumental Music into the Digital Age Adam Nuzzi, Michael D’Andrea, Zachary Carson, Christopher Beckett

The grade 4 Printmaking Exploration unit emphasizes how different materials can convey ideas and emotions, thereby enriching students' artistic experiences. Lego Dots Designer Toolkits along with a variety of printing supplies will be purchased with grant funds to provide the means for the art-making process to become more approachable and enjoyable for students.
Warnsdorfer Elementary School – Dance for Autism Dr. Renee Soccodato
The goal of this grant is to provide a dance program, with specialized classes and adaptive techniques, that will cater to the unique needs of individuals with autism. At the conclusion of this program, students will perform for their parents; parents will be invited to participate with their children.
Frost Elementary School – Music to Our Ears Moriah Kam
Expanding students' expression and experience of music through Orff instruments is the goal of this grant. While all students will benefit from access to these instruments, the positive impact on those students who are sensory and sound motivated can be profound. With grant funds, a variety of nonfiction text sets at varying reading levels will be purchased. The project will enhance the curriculum, specifically the nonfiction unit of study, by providing each student with five to six nonfiction texts that they can work with throughout the unit. First graders are naturally curious about the world around them. They love nonfiction and embrace every opportunity to expand their world knowledge. For early readers, the skills that they learn during units of study in nonfiction are the bridge between learning to read and reading to learn.
Warnsdorfer Elementary School - Music for Everyone: Adapting a Music Curriculum for Children with Autism - Dr. Renee Soccodato
Many students who are on the Autism spectrum do not participate in music class or chorus in the same way as their peers. This is due to a number of reasons, including but not limited to: increased sensitivity to sounds, obsessions with specific objects, and non-responsiveness to verbal cues. For many of these students music is a preferred activity, even providing a way for them to communicate their feelings. The goal of this project is to provide elementary music teachers with a variety of instruments to address special needs students appropriately, giving them the best educational music experience possible.
