New Jersey State Seal of Biliteracy

New Jersey State Seal of Biliteracy

The NJ Seal of Biliteracy certifies that each student is biliterate in English and another language. Students who are proficient in English and meet the Intermediate-Mid proficiency level determined by the New Jersey Department of Education in a world language will receive the NJ State Seal of Biliteracy certificate and will have this notated on the East Brunswick High School transcript. Please note, scores that prove intermediate-mid proficiency vary by assessment and are set by the State of New Jersey.  Please refer to the State's Acceptable Evidence of Proficiency guide.

Bilingual means that a person can speak and understand two languages.  Biliterate means a student can read, write, speak and understand two languages. Students who earn this recognition are biliterate.

This distinction is viewed as an asset when applying for college admission and/or a job. See below for more information:

Students who will be seniors in 2024-2025 will register for a language proficiency assessment.

Demo versions of the assessments can be found here (the assessment you take is determined by the language you are testing in):
