2026 NJ Governor's School and Simons Summer Institute Nominations

For current Juniors:

The application date for NJ Governor's School in the Sciences at Drew University and NJ Governor's School of Engineering and Technology at Rutgers University is January 8th. The Simons Summer Institute is February 10. Applications are submitted by the school for the students who are nominated, individuals cannot apply on their own. Students interested in being considered for nomination must complete the interest form linked below.

Interest Form

Only students who complete this nomination form will be considered.  Please note that according to the programs "admission to the program is very competitive. Following a competitive process at each high school in which dozens of students may express interest in attending the program, the programs generally receive between 300 and 400 applications from these nominees. Of the nominees who are the best and brightest students at their respective schools, fewer than 25% generally receive offers of admission. In previous years, 20% of applicants were admitted."

The interest form is due December 5th 2025.

Program information:

NJ Governor's School: There are two Governor's School programs sponsored by NJ universities. The Sciences program takes place at Drew University and the Engineering and Technology program takes place at Rutgers University. Both programs are 3-week, residential programs that take place in the summer. Juniors must be nominated through their high school. The selection process takes place at EBHS in December, and the Governor's School informs students on their acceptance status at the beginning of April.

Simons Summer Research Program - Established in 1984 as an outreach program for local high school students, the Simons Summer Research program now attracts applicants from all across the country to the Stony Brook campus: Simons Fellows are matched with Stony Brook faculty mentors, join a research group or team, and assume responsibility for a project. The Simons Fellows conclude their apprenticeship by producing a written research abstract and a research poster.  In addition to learning valuable techniques and experiencing life at a major research university, Simons Fellows attend weekly faculty research talks and participate in special workshops, tours and events. At the closing poster symposium, students are presented with a $1,000 stipend award.  Participants may elect to live on campus with other student researchers or to commute. The Simons Summer Research Program is supported by the Simons Foundation.
