Jack Cibrian has been teaching at East Brunswick High School since 1994. Last century he taught several English classes, but then he moved to the Art Department and has been the Film Appreciation teacher since 2000. He has always been a lover and student of film and has many childhood memories that revolve around movies: seeing Jaws at the drive-in when he was five (perhaps that’s why he doesn’t like the beach), seeing One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest at an inappropriately young age (and after the film asking his parents where the cuckoo bird was), and working at the now leveled Amboy Cinemas during high school and college. He has enjoyed exposing thousands of students to classic films that they wouldn’t have watched on their own, including future BlacKKKlansman Oscar winners David Rabinowitz and Charlie Wachtel. In addition to Film Appreciation, Mr. Cibrian also teaches Science Fiction in the Movies.
Mr. Cibrian is also a lover of theatre and was the Drama Advisor from 1996-2002, co-directing the last four of those years with Mrs. Kenny-Stein. He was the advisor of the now-defunct Book and Movie Club and is currently the Chess Club advisor. In his spare time, Mr. Cibrian acts in community theatre, most prominently almost every summer since 1998 at Edison’s Plays-in-the-Park. He also enjoys going to many conventions and meeting celebrities up close, hearing stories about film and TV.
Angela Deerson- Humanities, Jewelry & Interior Design

Angela Deerson launched her teaching journey in 1999 at Churchill Junior High School , where she taught history and cultivated a deep respect for storytelling and cultural inquiry. In 2007, she moved to the high school to teach Humanities—a shift that ignited her passion for the visual arts. Eager to grow both personally and professionally, Angela began taking art courses to broaden her certification and immerse herself more fully in creative expression.
Creating, exploring, and engaging with art are among Angela’s greatest sources of joy. She finds immense fulfillment in sharing that enthusiasm with her students. One of the most enriching aspects of the Humanities curriculum is guiding students beyond the classroom to encounter art in real-world settings. Visits to institutions such as the Met, MoMA, the Whitney, the High Line, and Grounds for Sculpture offer students the chance to connect with art, culture, and urban life—broadening their horizons through both visual and culinary discovery.
In 2025 Angela joined the Visual Art Department full-time, where teaches Jewelry and Interior Design in addition to Humanities. Even after 25 years in education, her drive to inspire and innovate remains as strong as ever.
Outside of school, Angela teaches yoga, tends her garden, and can often be found cheering on her two sons at the baseball field alongside her husband.
