Dr. Valeski's Current Messages
Messages from 2024-2025 School Year
Good Afternoon East Brunswick Community,
This is Victor Valeski, Superintendent of Schools.
As we prepare to conclude the school year, I wanted to pass along valuable End-of School New Jersey State Resources that are assessable at the this link:. https://nj.gov/SummerResourcePacket
The packet covers youth mental health, food security and public health information. This information will also be posted on our district website and will remain available throughout this summer.
Good afternoon East Brunswick Community,
Today, Monday, June 9, 2025, at approximately 1:16 PM, the East Brunswick Police Department received a call from an unknown individual threatening an active shooter incident at Central Elementary School. Central Elementary School was immediately put into a “Lockdown.” As a precaution, East Brunswick High School was also placed in a “Lockdown” and the remaining schools were placed in a “Shelter in Place”.
Officers immediately responded to Central Elementary School and met with school security officials, who stated that there were no known active shooter threats. Police worked closely with school security to conduct a thorough on-scene investigation, which verified that there was no active shooter threat and determined it to be a “swatting” incident.
"Swatting” is a term used to describe a hoax call made to emergency services, typically reporting an immediate threat to human life, to draw a response from law enforcement and the S.W.A.T. team to a specific location.
The East Brunswick Police Department and East Brunswick Public Schools take “swatting” incidents seriously and will continue to investigate this matter.
All students and staff followed our safety procedures and remained safe throughout this incident. We thank the community for their understanding that phones may not be answered and communication may be limited during any security event.
Due to this incident, busses may be slightly delayed this afternoon.
We thank the East Brunswick Police Department and our District staff for their swift response and continued partnership in keeping our school community safe.
Sincerely,
Dr. Victor P. Valeski
Superintendent of Schools
Good Afternoon East Brunswick Community,
This is Victor Valeski, Superintendent of Schools, calling with an important update on our Fiscal Year 2025-2026 budget development.
At our March 19th Board of Education meeting, the Board Members and Administration heard many community comments against our proposed budget cuts and modifications. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Board established new priorities to be incorporated into the final budget and the administrative team immediately began working on attainment of those priorities.
The Board of Education will convene a special meeting, in the Board meeting room, at the District’s Administrative Offices, on Tuesday April 8th, beginning at 7:30 PM, for the exclusive purpose of reviewing and discussing options that will be considered as part of the final budget. This is an informational meeting. No action will be taken at this meeting.
I will recommend:
- The complete restoration of the Hammarskjold Upper Elementary School (HUES) schedule. It will be recommended to remain unchanged from this year including no impacts for foreign languages at HUES.
- The restoration of the co-teaching instrumental music program at both HUES and Churchill Junior High School (CJHS).
- Our application to the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) for the recently announced Tax Levy Incentive Aid.
Our regularly scheduled board meeting will still be held on Thursday, April 10th.
We thank community members for their time, feedback, commitment and patience as we continue to work through this challenging time.
Good Afternoon East Brunswick Community,
This is Victor Valeski, Superintendent of Schools
East Brunswick Public Schools will have a 2-hour delay for tomorrow, Wednesday, February 12th for grades K-12, in anticipation of morning snow. I am announcing this delay early to give our school community time to prepare for the delayed opening. This will also allow our crews time to properly remove snow and treat all properties for safe passage.
The following times will apply:
- Grades 7-12 including full day Special Education Programs at those schools will begin at 10 AM
- Grades K-6 including full day Special Education Programs at those schools will begin at 11 AM
- For students in grades 5-12, February 12th is a B Day.
- Bus schedules will be delayed by 2 hours.
All morning half-day preschool programs with the exception of ELA are canceled. Afternoon half day pre- school classes will maintain their normal school hours in session from 12 PM to 2:20 PM.
Our Community Programs Early Learning Academy (ELA) will operate on a modified schedule. Please refer to the Hours section of the ELA website. (School Hours / Early Learning Academy Hours (ebnet.org))
Morning care will begin at 9 AM at all Elementary Schools inclusive of Hammarskjold Upper Elementary School. Breakfast is only available for those students attending the Early Morning Program. This is due to the delayed opening start time being so close to the first lunch service.
I will reevaluate in the morning as soon as I have reliable information. I want everyone to be informed that our delay could change to closing if weather conditions dictate.
