Reading Rocks is a fun non-competitive read-a-thon for students to promote reading.
It ran from March 6, 2017 - March 10.
The goal was to encourage reading with incentives while raising money for the EBEF.How it works: Students write their goal on the pledge form. They get pledges from family and friends in support of their commitment. Students can choose to:
Pledge dollars were collected at the time the pledge was made so students were able to take part in the award fun.
- Read independently for set amount of time or set number of books
- Have someone read aloud to them (in person, over phone or even Skype)
- Read picture books aloud to a pet, sibling etc.
This year the event was tied in to the Annual Read Across America Event to commemorate Dr. Seuss' birthday."You're never too old, too wacky, too wild,to pick up a book and read with a child.You're never too busy, too cool, or too hot,To pick up a book and share what you've got."
Bowne-Munro had a blast showing off rock star moves during Read Across America Day because Reading Rocks! . Students enjoyed hearing stories read by guest readers, reading with buddy classes and attending a book award presentation.
