    • Read Alouds/Shared Reading
    • Mini-lessons and active engagement
        • I teach the class a strategy or skill. 
        • During active engagement the children practice the strategy or skill before going to Independent Reading time.
    • Independent Reading 
      • Reading for stamina in just right books
      • Shop for books on his or her level (begins after each child is assessed)
      • Shop for 5 books on his or her level and for 1 "special" book/free choice book (yellow sticker book)
      • Reading to build sight words, decoding skills and comprehension skills
      • Each child receives a Reading Goal to help him or her to move onto the next level. he reading goal is written on the back of the bookmark that he or she made in class. The bookmark will be inside the Bag of Books.
      • Children will meet with me individually to build upon decoding and comprehension skills.
    • Partner Reading
      • Children will be paired with another child who is reading on or close to his or her level.
      • Partners will read together and talk about the book.
    • Guided Reading
      • In small groups of no more than 6 children, children will be instructed one level above his or her independent level. A new book will be introduced and will help to develop and reinforce reading strategies, skills and comprehension.

      • Children share the strategies that they have been practicing to grow as a reader.
