If your child will be participating in ANY after school activity or staying with a teacher for after-school help, please discuss the ACTIVITY BUSES and STOPS with them, even if you plan on picking them up. Please note that the stops are different than their regular bus stops.
HMS CLUBS 2021-2022

Description: Provides academic competition in math, science, government, sports, art, history and English. Students compete against students from other schools. For 2021-22 this club meets on Wednesdays in room 2426. Max. 24 students
Pre-Requisite: Student selection is based on results from an assessment given.
BAND - 6th Grade
Advisor: Ms. Nichols
Description: After school Band rehearsals extend classroom activities and learning experiences. After-school rehearsals are only scheduled before performances. We do two concerts per year - the Hammarskjold Band Winter Concert and the District Wide Band Concert. For 2021-22 this club meets on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays in room 1200F or the JMPAC. Max- 130 students.
Requirements: In order to attend after-school Band students must be enrolled in the elective class 6th Grade Band.
BAND - 7th Grade

Description: After school Band rehearsals extend classroom activities and learning experiences. After-school rehearsals are only scheduled before performances. Description: Provide general education and special needs students with a variety of physical activities to increase skills such as developing friendships, gross-motor abilities, following directions and how to appropriately handle competitive situations. Students will also develop teamwork and exercise habits. For 2021-22 this club meets on Tuesdays in Gym 2. Max- 25 students, advisor approval required.
C.A.R.E. (Caring Adults Reinforcing Education)
Advisors: Ms. Ciotola & Ms. Shanks (6th Grade)
Description: This club provides a select group of students additional support in completing homework assignments and preparing for quizzes/tests after school. A number of senior citizens and members of our EBHS Honor Society volunteer to work after school with students in need of assistance. For 2021-22 this club meets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for 6th grade in room 2623 and for 7th grade in room 1600. Max - 20 students per grade.
Requirements: Students need to be recommended to participate in this program, and if selected, make a commitment to attend regularly. Students must be willing to bring all materials necessary with them to C.A.R.E. and have a positive attitude and desire to improve their academic standing. Students must have a signed permission slip.

Description: Provides academic, community based instruction, work study and job sampling to assist in preparing all students for adult life. For 2021-22 this club meets on Tuesdays in room 1406.
Requirements: Open to all students in good academic/behavioral standing.

Description: This club will explore the areas of creative dramatics and theatrical events. Members will work on scenes, monologues, and skits throughout the year. Students will be cast and directed in plays. Students also participate in a student performance on the stage at the JMPAC at Hammarskjold. For 2021-22 this club meets on Wednesdays and Thursdays in room 1205, but specific cast requirements for each day will be announced on the Drama Club Website.
Requirements: Students must audition and be selected to participate in/join the Drama Club. Attendance at rehearsals is required; absences may result in a student not being permitted to continue in the program. Some rehearsals will require students to provide their own transportation home as they will conclude after the activity bus time. Students may be asked to provide materials for costumes and/or props the week of a show are mandatory. Students may be asked to provide materials for costumes and/or set production.
HMS GOT TALENT
Advisor: Mr. Swayze
Description: The purpose of this club will be to prepare students for the annual HMS talent show. Students will learn skills related to stage performance along with practicing their prepared act for the annual show. For 2021-22 this club meets on Thursdays in room 1406.
Advisor: Mr. Delbar
Description: Provides opportunities for students to demonstrate knowledge achieved in music classes by performing in choral groups, presenting concerts for community events, PTA programs, etc. For 2021-22 this club meets on Tuesdays in room 1200K or the JMPAC.
Advisor: Mr. Becker
Description: Provides an opportunity for students to practice skills learned in music classes as they perform jazz music. Students audition and may participate in several student performances. For 2021-22 this club meets on Wednesdays and Thursdays in the JMPAC or 1200F.
Requirements: In order to attend after-school Jazz Ensemble students must be enrolled in the elective class, Band.
JUNIOR ART HONOR SOCIETY
Advisor: Ms. Barrett
Description: Hammarskjold Middle School's Junior Art Honor Society membership is chosen based upon application and character. The club is designed to promote an awareness of the visual arts, encourage the growth of creativity and technical skills. Past projects include: murals within our school, participation in the Memory Project, and working on after-school art projects in 2-D and 3-D. For 2021-22 this club meets on Wednesdays and possibly some Tuesdays and Thursdays in room 1716. Max – 24 students.
Requirements: Students must be in 7th Grade and fill out an application with a submission of 3 drawings to be reviewed for acceptance.

Description: The Hammarskjold Spirit Club focuses on boosting school spirit, belonging, and positivity within our school community. Our club organizes, supports, and promotes school-wide events and activities with the goal of encouraging staff and student participation. The Spirit Club also promotes a positive environment by making signs, decorating our hallways, and supporting other school organizations. Our overall purpose is to encourage a fun and positive atmosphere in our school! If you have energy, creativity, and love participating in fun school activities...we need your help! Join the Hammarskjold Spirit Club to get involved, gain school spirit, and meet awesome friends along the way. For 2021-22 this club meets on Thursdays in Room 1401.
Requirements: The Spirit Club is open to all Hammarskjold 6th & 7th graders.
SPORTS CLUB/INTRAMURAL FITNESS ACTIVITIES
Advisor: Ms. Brown
Description: This club provides an opportunity for students to have fun, be involved and stay active. Students in the club will be introduced to a variety of sports based games, which will build techniques and skills that they have learned in the physical education classes. Sign ups will be based on a first-come basis until all spots are filled. For 2021-22 this club meets on Tuesdays in Gym 2. Max – 24 students.
Requirements: The Sports Club is open to all Hammarskjold 6th & 7th graders regardless of their past experience or athletic level.

Description: The goal of the Hammarskjold Student Council is to promote school spirit and community service through a variety of school related activities. The Student Council is made up of a governing body of four students and a representative from each study. All members of the Student Council are elected by the student body after being recommended by teachers. Some specific activities that the Student Council is involved in include, election of officers and study representatives, fund raising, food drives, holiday drive, school wide student of the month recognition program, school spirit week, end of the year talent show. Meetings are normally held twice a month after school. During particularly busy times, the club may meet more often. For 2021-22 this club meets on Wednesdays in room 1712. Max – 30 students (eligibility based on School Elections).
Requirements: The most important quality that a member of the Student Council must have is dedication and commitment to the club. The success of any Student Council activity is completely dependent upon the support and hard work of Student Council members. Therefore, regular attendance at meetings is mandatory. We encourage members to bring their ideas to meetings. As a group, our goal is to work toward turning those ideas into projects and activities that the entire school can enjoy.

Description: Video Newsmakers provides students with an opportunity to produce, direct, write, and perform video broadcasts on our "Hammarskjold News" channel. For 2021-22 this club meets daily at 8:05 a.m. in the Media Center. Max – 30 students.
Requirements: Students must be able to leave their first period classes on assigned days. Students must have a signed permission slip to participate.
Advisor: Ms. Spinelli
Description: Provides students with an opportunity to use skills learned in English and Art classes in order to produce a school yearbook. Students meet in sections to design, draw and layout sections of the yearbook as assigned. Students help with activity pictures, writing copy, captions and taking candid pictures. Each section will be responsible for all aspects of completing their assignment within the scope of their deadline. It is imperative that students be committed to the production of this yearbook and cannot be involved in another club that will meet at the same time as the section deadline the student is assigned. Sections will be assigned in September.

Approximately 6 weeks after your section is submitted you will be required to stay a few days after school to help proof your section for errors. A calendar with exact deadlines and meeting dates will be distributed to all Yearbook staff members in September. Section Editors are chosen each May from active 6th graders. Section Editors are required to attend all meetings of their sections from September to May. For 2021-22 meetings of various sections will be determined on necessity, however, general meetings are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Room 2411.
Requirements: All interested students must attend 1 of 2 September workshops before getting a permission slip. Students must bring in signed permission slip by given date. Students must be willing to work on assigned section and to do all aspects of the job for completing that section. Group cooperation is essential, and knowledge of computers is helpful. A good sense of humor and ability to work under pressure is imperative. Dedication and pride in one's work is a must. Regular attendance is mandatory. Unexcused absences will result in dismissal from Yearbook Staff. Students must have a signed permission slip.
