The Community Programs Department provides extended learning opportunities for district students, their families, and other members of the East Brunswick and central New Jersey community. The activities offered by Community Programs are targeted for all ages and run morning, noon, and night. All programs are fairly priced to maximize participation by as many people as possible.
Children as young as three and four years old are eligible to participate in
the Early Learning Academy pre-school program that is run at various
elementary schools in the district. This popular program is staffed by
certificated instructors and uses the Creative Curriculum as a path to early
childhood education. For students and their families the department operates the Early Morning
Program for all eight elementary schools and the Morning Start program for
Hammarskjold Middle School. In addition, Community Programs offers the
ASK (After School Kids) program for all elementary schools and the Encore
program at Hammarskjold. In the after school programs students have time
to do homework and also are involved in other opportunities to have fun and
learn interesting crafts, skills, and experience social growth. Additionally,
fee-based enrichment programs such as sports, chess, cooking, Spanish
language, and science enrichment are offered for mixed fun and learning.High school students and their families can take advantage of the partner-
ship between Community Programs and The Princeton Review to take PSAT,
SAT, and ACT test preparation classes at East Brunswick for deeply
discounted prices. In addition, free practice ACT and SAT tests are also
offered. In its fourth decade, the East Brunswick Adult School offers courses in
English as a Second Language (ESL), Citizenship Exam Preparation, and
High School Equivalency Exam Preparation. Funded by a grant from the
U.S. Department of Labor, the Adult School had 498 students last school
year. In addition, 29 students from the Citizenship Exam Preparation
class passed their exam and now enjoy U.S. citizenship.Community Programs is proud to offer these quality functions for the benefit of many. The department is committed to extended learning in terms of age, types of activities, times of day, or days of the week.
