 Dear Parents/Guardians,

 Welcome to Hammarskjold Middle School and House Two!  My name is Dave Krongold and I am your child’s sixth grade science teacher.  I am delighted that your child is in my class.  With your encouragement, your child will be part of many exciting and rewarding experiences this school year.

 Since I will be spending a great deal of time with your child, I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little about myself. I am happily married and have three wonderful children. Jack, my oldest is 15, and is entering tenth grade, my daughter Ava, 13, is starting eighth grade and my youngest Sadie, 11, will be going into sixth grade.  My kids love hearing my school day stories and often give me ideas on how to make class more engaging for all of the students.  On days that I am not busy with school, I enjoy spending time with family, watching a soccer game or gymnastics meet, going to the beach, and playing golf.  I also try to get to the gym, but can’t say it happens as much as I would like.   As the year goes on, I hope to learn your child’s interests as well. 

 Some sixth grade Science topics that will be discussed this year include Ecology, Succession, Biodiversity, Light and Color and Oceanography.  Though my standards and expectations are high, I strive to create an atmosphere where my students will learn that success is always within their reach.

 Since lifelong success depends partly on self-discipline, the teachers of House Two have discussed our behavioral expectations with the students.  These expectations afford all students guidance in making good decisions about their behavior and thus an opportunity to learn in a positive, nurturing class environment.
