Health Courses
The Health curriculum focuses on current health issues and important topics related to wellness. The goal of the health education program is to help students develop awareness and appreciation of the mental, social, physical and emotional aspects of a healthy individual. The program in grades 7, 8 & 9 is a one semester course.

2735 - Health 7
Grade 7 | Credits: 2.5
The purpose of the seventh grade health course is to establish a solid foundation of health information that the student will use throughout their life. It is a crucial point in the development of the student to create a base for healthy lifestyle practices including: proper diet, exercise habits, leadership skills, and refusal skills. The student will also be informed of the risk factors of an unhealthy lifestyle including: tobacco products and their effects on the human body, alcohol and its effect on the human body, as well as other drugs. The students will also undergo an intricate family life unit that will inform the student on the anatomy and physiology of the reproductive systems as well as other risk factors to a healthy lifestyle in this area. The students will develop a sense of self-worth and personal responsibility in this health class. We will establish this foundation by relating these new ideas with the concepts the student is learning in other areas of education such as Math, Science, Language Arts, Career Education and Consumer/Family/Life Skills.

Grade 8 | Credits: 2.5
The purpose of health instruction in grade eight is to emphasize the establishment, development and achievement of a positive lifestyle. The student will acquire health information, decision-making skills, and coping strategies that are necessary for physical, intellectual, social and emotional well-being. The grade eight health course deals with mental health, drug and alcohol abuse, family life relationships, consumer health, environmental health, prevention and control of disease, nutrition, first aid, and stress and bullying. Developmental or adaptive health is also available to students with special needs.

2722 - Health 9
Grade 9 | Credits: 2.5
Grade 9 Health is a comprehensive program of interrelated components that stress the choices and skills necessary for wellness. Topics to be covered include the functioning and structures of the endocrine system and reproductive system along with changes during adolescence as they relate to childbirth and pregnancy including, teen pregnancy and teen pregnancy options. Various methods of contraception (stressing abstinence), STI’s, their symptoms, spread, prevention, and treatments; along with dating violence, date rape, gender issues and gender bias issues. Students will acquire accurate and current health information and develop healthful attitudes and behaviors. Students will discover reliable and current sources of information that they will consult now and in the future. This course teaches and reinforces the skills necessary to weigh options and to make responsible and healthy choices. Developmental or adaptive health is also available to students with special needs.

Physical Education Courses
The Physical Education curriculum focuses on creating physically literate students by providing them with a variety of activities to choose from. The goal of the Physical Education program is to help students develop awareness and appreciation of the mental, social, physical and emotional aspects of a healthy individual. The program in grades 7, 8 & 9 is a one semester course. Physical Education (10-12) is a three-quarter course for 3.75 credits. All Physical Education classes run on the A/B block schedule.

2734 - Physical Education 7
Grade 7
The seventh-grade physical education program offers a variety of team, lifetime sports, and physical fitness activities. During each unit, there is an emphasis on teaching the fundamentals of each sport/activity, sportsmanship/teamwork, rules, and basic strategies. Physical fitness is also an integral part of the program and includes aerobic and anaerobic exercises. Physical education is taken every other on an A/B block schedule for a semester. The other half of the year the students will take health. Developmental or adapted physical education is also available to students with special needs.

Ninth grade Physical Education is an elective program that allows students to select activities they may be interested in learning more about. Physical education is taken every other on an A/B block schedule for a semester.Their curriculum includes team sports such as basketball, volleyball, and handball and individual sports include badminton, golf, and social dance. During each unit, there is an emphasis on the teaching of the fundamentals, rules, sportsmanship, and basic sports strategies. Fitness is also an emphasis and includes aerobic and anaerobic exercises as well as testing. Developmental or adaptive physical education is also available to students with special needs.
