• Welcome To ESL!

    Hello in Different Languages

In East Brunswick grades K-5 use a pull-out ESL program, which consists of small group instruction and reinforcement of grade level classroom language objectives.  In ESL we study the English language through practicing listening, speaking, reading and writing. We learn about the American culture, history and traditions while encouraging children to share and learn about different cultures from around the world. Our lessons include learning vocabulary, reading strategies and skills, phonics, word study, grammar and usage, and writing strategies.

Our ESL Program continues to grow and expand through our increasing diverse population.  There are about 250 English Language learners in East Brunswick Public Schools from grades K-12.  Of these students they represent about 16 different languages and cultures.  Students are leveled and assessed in accordance with the WIDA performance levels.  We use the WIDA CAN DO DESCRIPTORS https://www.wida.us/standards/CAN_DOs/ to highlight what language learners can do at various stages of language development as they engage in teaching and learning in academic contexts.
