The Pact By: Jodi Picoult

Plot: From day one Christopher Harte and Emily Gold were inseparable. All of their lives, they grew up together, as their families grew closer. Everything they did, they did together. As they got older, it was no surprise to anyone that their relationship went beyond lifelong friends. Everything was perfect, until one late November night. At three A.M. the call to both families came: Emily was shot to death and Chris was in the hospital with a severe head wound. When asked, Chris claims that they were both part of a suicide pact and agreed to kill themselves together. Throughout the book, we try to answer one question: Is the suicide pact that Chris speaks of true, or is he her real killer?
Why read? I absolutely loved this book. The book is very suspenseful. It is very intense for most of the novel, and the more you read, the less you can stop. I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking to read something good!

Plot: Chris Harte and Emily Gold have known each other for their whole lives, being neighbors and close family friends. When they hit their teenage years their sibling-like love transforms into something greater when they start going out. As a couple, they have been going out for three years and are very different from most couples their age, as they share a genuine love. Then one night, the Hartes and Golds receive a phone call at 3:00 AM concerning their children who have been in an accident. It turns out that Emily has been shot and Chris becomes the main suspect in this crime. As Chris fights for his innocence, the reader finds out the details about the main characters, and what exactly happened on the night that Emily was shot.

Why read? This book is one of the best books that I have ever read and I strongly recommend it to readers who enjoy an action-packed, suspenseful novel. The novel is also presented in a very unique way, having every other chapter as a flashback which contributes to the suspense of the story. Readers will not help but make an instant connection with the main characters and will be interested in finding out what happens next. This is definitely a page-turner and for Jodi Picoult lovers, this is one of her finest works.

Plot:The Harte’s and the Gold’s have been best friends who live next to each other for over 15 years. Both set of parents are thrilled when their children, Chris Harte and Emily Gold, start to date. Infact, the two became so inseparable that many friends, family, and teachers would view them as already married. Although, everything would change after one night where a shot was fired and Chris was found alive at the scene of the crime, yet Emily was dead. Accused of killing Emily, Chris was thrown into jail under the terms of first-degree murder. However, many still refused to believe that Chris could do such a thing, for they believed he would do anything for Emily. Therefore, the story continues on as we find out the truth of what really happened, waiting for the characters in the book to as well.
Why read? This book was very action-packed that I never wanted to stop reading. Picoult wrote the chapters alternating from past to present, making you slowly find out the truth of what happened in that one night. However, your brain never stops making your own accusations of what happened, and it doesn’t stop until the very end, in which you are left speechless.
