A Prayer for Owen Meany By: John Irving

Recommended by: Mr. Nieskens
Plot: How does a young boy that hits an errant foul ball which kills his best friends mother go on to become a hero? And why does his best friend (the narrator), John Wheelwright, believe in God because of him. Story looks back to the relationship of John and Owen Meany as they grow up in their small New Hampshire town.

Why read? Very entertaining and thought provoking book that mixes, adolescence, religion and family along with some of the social history of the 60s. Book cleverly written with a number of humorous characters. It was the type of book that made me reread sections and want to discuss it with other people. And when I finished the book, I would like to have known Owen Meany.
