Misery By: Stephen King

Plot: This book tells the story of Paul Sheldon, highly acclaimed for his books in the Misery series. However, one woman, Annie Wilkes is greatly obsessed with these books. Maybe even a little too much. One day, Paul gets into a severe car accident. Annie coincidentally finds him and takes him to her house. Once he becomes conscious again, he realizes that she is not properly taking care of him. She wont even take him to a hospital. It soon goes from care to cruelty. She begins to hold him more as a hostage now. Pauls life is very threatened by her inability to properly care for him. Her attitudes toward him shift from loving him to even hating him. Annie only loves him because she wants Paul to write a new book for the Misery series just for her. It becomes a fight for survival for Paul as he tries to escape.

Why read? Misery is an excellent book for anyone who is into gore, and violence. The plot will intrigue and will become a page turner. I loved this book because this was book takes place at a time where communication is more limited than it is today. Paul cannot call anyone to rescue him. As you read it, you will develop your own hatred for Annie. If you ever looked up to someone too much, this book will be a message of what can possibly happen. The anticipation and adrenaline rush from this book makes it a must-read for anyone into horror.

Plot: An intense thriller about a famous author, Paul Sheldon, who gets into a car accident. Who is there to help the writer? His number one fan. However, this fan is one cynical woman with a horrifying past. She takes him hostage and makes him write his version of her favorite character of his writing: Misery. Writing with a broken typewriter did not help as well. Countless days and nights Paul spends writing this persona with the fear of being killed every minute. He does dream of escaping, but there are two problems: one, the woman locks up the house, and two, he is paralyzed from the waist down. Every time he does try to leave the room, she berates him until he cannot endure any more pain. The prolonged suspense will have you on the edge of your seat. Join Paul as he attempts to escape the ghastly grip of his number one fan, Annie Wilkes.

Why read? This book is worth reading because it displays the qualities of many horror thrillers that young kids like. Plus, the type of writing fits Stephen King's style. So if you are a Stephen King fan, don't hesitate to jump on this book. With unending suspense and questions that leave you puzzled, there would be no way the book would leave your hands. It is one of those books that you cannot put down. Reading for hours seems like minutes when you actually get into the plot. I also liked how King incorporates a story within a story (picture frame). It helps the reader understand what is actually going on in the book because it does connect to the story itself. King's style of writing and the characters he creates throughout his novel.
