Recommended by: Gabe D.

Plot: Piscine Molitor Patel (or Pi as he later calls himself) is an Indian student whose parents own a zoo. At sixteen he and his family attempt to move to North America, but the ship sinksleaving Pi in a lifeboat.

Why read? The plot seems unrealistic, but is presented in a believable and funny way. The author uses humor and a very strange setting to make the book interesting.

Plot: Pi Patel, the character around which the story is centered, is a peculiar kid who lives in India where his father owns a zoo. When his family decides to emigrate to North America on a ship with all the animals in the zoo, something tragic happens that forever changing the life of Pi.

Why read? The main character is very interesting. He is not only interested in zoo animals but also in religion—and because of this, he practices multiple religions at the same time. This book would be a good choice especially to those that are interested in animals.
