Plot: In this book, a retired detective named Alex Cross has his exciting past come back to haunt him. He is dating a detective who took his spot when he quit, and she drags him into a case. A man murders people in front of audiences and eventually is found to have a connection to Kyle Craig, a serial killer whom Alex Cross had put in jail. He escapes, and now Alex goes from having a normal life to trying to stop two serial killers before they get to him.

Why read? This book is worth reading because it is an excellent mystery story, but it also feels like an action novel. It does a fantastic job of developing all of the characters in the story, and it also does a fantastic job of describing the relationships between characters. While the book is slow at first, it rapidly picks up and once you reach the twentieth chapter, it is nearly impossible to put down. The action comes at you so quickly that it is impossible to be bored while reading this. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes mystery, suspense, and fast-paced action. Overall, I would rate this book as a 9.5 out of 10.

Plot: Set in Washington D.C., Alex Cross and Bree Stone are the leading detectives in cases to capture two different serial killers. Cross and Stone, who are dating, try to balance their relationship with their work in this suspenseful thriller. The first killer yearns for attention, and thus cunningly commits murders in public without being caught. Tension heightens in the story as Kyle Craig escapes from a maximum security prison. Craig is a former FBI detective, turned vengeful murderer. Cross is responsible for sending him to jail The plot focuses on Cross and Stones attempts to capture these killers as the amount of their victims increases. Every character and event has significance in this well developed plot, leaving the reader thoroughly satisfied.

Why read? Without question, this book easily resembles detective shows such as Law and Order, CSI, and Crossing Jordan. If mystery/thrillers are your genre, then this book ranks number one on your "Must Read" list. The plot takes on a series of twists and turns, making the reader question himself numerous times about the identity of the attention-seeking murderer. Patterson's writing creates a sense of suspense from start to finish. Aside from this, Double Cross incorporates recent events such as an acknowledgement of the Washington Nationals, quotes from Talladega Nights, and even a mention of the Nintendo Wii. Such allusions foster a sense of realism in this fictional story. The real question is: why isn't this book worth reading?

Plot: Dr. Alex Cross thought that the worst of his worries were over when he locked up the infamous Kyle Craig in a super maximum-security prison. He was only half right. The criminal mastermind Kyle Craig had one main follower that would carry on a killing spree in his honor. On the other hand, Alex Cross is a retired police officer that is practicing psychology. After the numerous killings by the unnamed follower, he leaves a message saying he is coming after Alex Cross. If Dr. Cross was not worried about that threat, he also received a message from Kyle Craig saying that Kyle would find a way out of the super maximum-security prison and he would come after Alex Cross. Therefore, Alex Cross rejoins the police squad in the fight of his life.

Why read? Any fan of mystery must read this novel. Double Cross is breathtaking novel with so much suspense. James Patterson does a terrific job in keeping the reader involved in the novel all the way to the end. In addition, Patterson captivates the audience by making them feel, as they are the cops and not just bystanders. If you like the jam-packed action in the television show 24 or any other cop show, you will like this book for sure!

Plot: Alex Cross, who now is a psychologist, finds his way back into the police force as he was once a very well known detective. He must set out to find out who the Washington D.C. killer is. DCAK (D.C. Audience Killer) is unique in that he murders people in front of large crowds hoping to intimidate the rest of the city. Accompanied by Brianna Stone, the two must capture him and possibly an accomplice of his who is also involved in the killings. If one madman is not enough, there is a second locked up in a maximum-security prison who is eager to escape. Both psychopathic killers are after Alex Cross and his fellow detectives thus they must be careful of just about anyone they encounter.
Why read? This book is full of action and never seems to slow down in terms of pace. There are plenty of murders that occur that keep you constantly on your toes and never knowing when the next one will come. This book is very plot-driven in that it has events happening very quickly which keeps you from putting the book down. It also is quite easy to understand making it a casual and relaxing yet enticing book to read.
