Lesson for “Who’s Who in History

Objectives

  1. LWDAT use the media center resources as research tools.
  2. LWDAT investigate a specific individual from history that relates to the ninth grade history curriculum.
  3. LWDAT to prove the chosen individual’s importance in history.
  4. LWDAT use power point as an effective presentation tool.
  5. LWDAT understand the purpose of a resume and its use as a life skills tool.
  6. LWDAT write a resume in its complete form.

Procedures

  1. Have class brainstorm “What is the purpose of a resume? What are resumes used for?”
  2. Teacher will lead discussion following students’ brainstorming activity.
  3. Distribute activity sheet for “Who’s Who in History”.
  4. Review activities with students.
  5. Students will randomly choose individual to investigate.
  6. After the teacher reviews the requirements class will proceed to the media center to begin the investigation.
  7. Media center specialist will review with class procedures.
  8. Students will begin investigation by searching on-line sources for resume samples.
  9. See activity sheet for remainder of procedures and requirements.
  10. Two class periods in the media center.
  11. Power points will be presented at various times throughout the school year. The power points will be incorporated in a timely fashion.
  12. During power point presentations, the audience will take notes on the individual being presented.

Closures

  1. Share with your partner two resume categories that you investigated during your first visit to the media center.
  2. Teacher will ask the class to write down the answer to the following question-“Why are there so many different types of resumes?” Discussion to follow.
  3. Upon completion of resumes have students share theirs with a partner.
