Ms.
Sharon Renaud Child Nutrition Manager (732) 613-6717 All schools in the district participate in the National School Lunch Program. School Wellness/Nutrition Policy Foods of Minimal Nutritional Value Menus are designed to provide one-third of the USDA's Recommended Daily Allowance for a healthy eleven-year-old child, with adjustments for different ages. Total calories from fat are kept at the 30 percent level, with ten percent from saturated fat. More grains, fresh fruits and vegetables have been added to the menus to meet nutritional goals and increase consumption of fibers and vitamins. Free or Reduced Price Lunch A child whose family size and family income are at or below guidelines set by the Department of Agriculture may be eligible for free or reduced price lunch. The reduced price for lunch at all schools is $0.40. Applications and information are sent to all parents in September and should be returned to the school at that time. Parents who do not apply in September may become eligible during the school year if circumstances change. An official notice of the child's eligibility with be sent to parents. Provisions are made for appeals in cases of disagreement. Verification of the applicant's eligibility may be required. |

Lunch Tokens and Tickets Lunch tokens are used at all elementary schools, while lunch tickets are used for the middle, junior and high schools. The district encourages students who purchase lunch on a regular basis to purchase lunch tokens or tickets. Purchasing these ahead of time helps alleviate long, slow lines in the cafeteria during lunch periods and provides more time for the children to eat their lunch. Tokens and tickets may be used at anytime throughout the year. Since the tokens can be used only for lunch, parents can be assured that their children will not spend them on snacks. Tokens are sold each Friday in the cafeterias at each elementary school; tickets are sold daily in the cafeterias at the middle, junior high and high schools. A 10-cent per day discount is provided for tokens and tickets purchased by the week. The discounted price is shown below:
