Welcome to Central Elementary School, a true community of learners!  Central Elementary School is a pre-kindergarten through fifth grade school with an enrollment of approximately 460 students.  Our population is very diverse, with families from many countries and backgrounds.  We pride ourselves on welcoming all students into our community.

Every staff member is dedicated to creating an environment that enables students to learn and grow.  Teachers work closely with one another to provide a content rich, technology infused curriculum that also stresses student collaboration and independence.   As you walk through the school, you will see students who are actively engaged in learning.  Students are often spread around the room reading books, playing math games, constructing objects or observing live creatures.  In many classrooms, you will see students participating in a lesson using an interactive SMART Board which allows students to engage in learning through touch screen technology.
In addition to our academic curriculum, students also participate weekly in art music and physical education.  The students at Central Elementary School have the opportunity to participate in many extra curricular activities including instrumental music, and clubs related to sports, music, art, math and much more.

Character Education is an integral part of all we do here at Central Elementary School.  This year, our theme is, “Get in the Game!  Be a Team Player!”  Students will learn essential conflict resolution skills so that all students and staff use the same language when communicating about social issues that students face each day.  Throughout the year, there will be various lessons and special activities that help students see the benefits of working as a team and supporting one another.

Though all of these wonderful things are happening in school each day, we recognize that students are most successful when parents are highly involved in their child’s education.  To that end, we offer many opportunities for parents to get involved.  You can communicate with your child’s teacher during Back to School Night and conferences and throughout the year via phone or email.  We have a Literacy Volunteer Program where parents are trained to work with individual students to support literacy development.  Our PTA holds many special events throughout the year that are always a huge success.  Many of these events happen during the day including cultural arts assemblies, a dance-a-thon, book fairs and field day.  The PTA also works tirelessly all year to plan special events for the entire family including the Halloween Howl, Movie Nights, Family Fun Nights and much more.  You are encouraged to be involved in your child’s education by staying in contact with the teachers, becoming a volunteer and joining the PTA.

At Central Elementary School, we embrace the challenge of preparing our students to take their places as informed citizens of the twenty-first century.  Through parent involvement, rigorous academic standards and a commitment to character education, the students of Central Elementary School are well on their way.  We can look forward with confidence in this generation.
