Important Traffic Safety Message from Mrs. Grafas.

Welcome to the Warnsdorfer School. Here at Warnsdorfer, students, parents, staff, and the community at large work collaboratively to create a dynamic learning environment for all our students. A walk through our building always takes longer than expected because visitors want to stop to enjoy all the student work displayed. The art work, poetry, biographies, timelines and numerous other fine student works demonstrate the high quality of learning that occurs daily at Warnsdorfer. A peek into the classrooms will reveal students working cooperatively on research reports, conducting science experiments, composing music, calculating large numbers, accessing web sites, writing and reading, reading, reading! Teachers read to students, students read to students, students read together in literature circles and in guided reading groups, students read in pairs, students read with literacy volunteers and students read independently. Reading occurs everywhere in the building: in the media center, in the halls, on the playground, while on line waiting for buses or for lunch, in the Garden of Reading. Warnsdorfer is a literature rich learning environment for all students.

Warnsdorfer students take full advantage of the extensive technology available to them. Each day begins with an in-house morning news broadcast, WARN. Students broadcast the weather and school news each day from the broadcast center in our new media center. Every classroom tunes in on their wall-mounted televisions. Every classroom is equipped with at least one computer, which is attached to the local network. Teachers use the computer and monitor to present lessons, accessing PowerPoint, the Internet and numerous reference materials. Students work independently on computers to strengthen basic skills, access information and for word processing. All students are scheduled into the computer lab to learn computer skills and to enhance math, science, social studies or language arts assignments. All students in grades three, four and five have completed a keyboarding course, Type to Learn.

Warnsdorfer students and teachers are very busy learning and teaching a rigorous academic program. However, students also participate in a rich cultural arts program, courtesy of the collaborative efforts of the district arts program, the PTA and the East Brunswick Education Foundation. Professional performers provide quality performances to our students six or seven times a year. Their ranks include dancers, actors, authors, musicians, puppeteers and mimes.

Parents support our school community in many ways. Through fund raising efforts, they have provided an outdoor classroom within the internal courtyard of our school, where students can observe local flora and fauna and plant seeds and bulbs. I was amazed by the huge variety of bird species which visit our courtyard, as observed and recorded by students!

Warnsdorfer is truly a community of learners who work together to prepare the leaders of the next century, our students, for a rich and productive future. I look forward to the future with confidence in this generation.
