Reading Rocks is a fun non-competitive read-a-thon for students to promote reading.
It ran from March 6, 2017 - March 10.
The goal was to encourage reading with incentives while raising money for the EBEF.
How it works: Students write their goal on the pledge form. They get pledges from family and friends in support of their commitment. Students can
independently for set amount of time or set number of books
someone read aloud to them (in person, over phone or even Skype)
picture books aloud to a pet, sibling etc.
Pledge dollars were collected at the time the pledge was made so students were able to take part in the award fun.
This year the event was tied in to the Annual Read Across America Event to commemorate Dr. Seuss' birthday.
"You're never too old, too wacky, too wild,
to pick up a book and read with a child.
You're never too busy, too cool, or too hot,
To pick up a book and share what you've got."
Bowne-Munro had a blast showing off rock star moves during
Read Across America Day because Reading Rocks! . Students enjoyed hearing
stories read by guest readers, reading with buddy classes and attending a book
