Welcome to Robert Frost Elementary School. The theme for the 2008-2009 school year is “Put Your Best Foot Forward”. Together the staff and students will focus on the six pillars of character which form the core of our positive school climate. The 2008-2009 school year will begin with “Respect Week”, a time to focus on the importance of respect, for ourselves and each other. In subsequent weeks our teachers, who have all received training in bullying, teasing, and conflict resolution, will deliver lessons that help students understand the difference between assertive and passive behavior. Students are also taught strategies that enable them to deal with bullying behavior. These lessons empower our students by providing them with the tools they need to make good decisions.

Helping children to resolve conflicts is another important focus at Frost. Fourth & fifth graders, trained as peer mediators, help fellow students develop strategies to handle conflict with peaceful problem solving. All Frost students are committed to a bully-free school that provides a safe place for all children to learn. They take a stand against bullying and are proactive in creating a positive school environment.  Children have pride in Frost School which reflects in their successful achievement.

The Courtyard is a focal point of our school. Many school assemblies emanate from this outdoor classroom and also provide the perfect setting for learning. This outdoor environment makes students aware of the importance of preserving and protecting our natural resources and gives students the opportunity to learn in a classroom without walls.

Technology is an integral part of the Frost experience. Frost teachers communicate with parents through individual teacher websites that allow students and parents to keep abreast of class activities, review homework assignments and visit internet links to various content sites related to current learning. Teachers integrate technology into the curriculum using Promethean boards and computers in the classrooms. Access to video streaming allows teachers to download videos and clips to enhance their lesson delivery in a wide variety of content areas. Our Technology Lab is utilized by entire classes for various activities, from publishing original works, researching, completing a Web Quest or preparing PowerPoint presentations. We also have two wireless labs consisting of thirty-two laptops available for classroom use.  These help to facilitate individual and small group research projects.

Students in grades 3-5 have access to Study Island, a web-based instructional resource. Study Island is a program that focuses on the Content Standards and helps improve student performance in all skill areas tested on the NJASK. Study Island allows students to learn/review at their own pace and provides extra help when needed.  Students can access Study Island from home, school, the library, or anywhere with an internet connection. Please take advantage of this excellent resource.

Another vital part of the Frost formula for success is the tremendous support given by our parents. The PTA’s active involvement has provided the children with many learning experiences. They also provide financial support for teachers’ innovative ideas, cultural arts presentations and activities that engage the whole family. The cooperation and support of our parents contributes to the success and sense of community that thrives at Frost School.

Many of the dedicated Frost staff members serve as advisors to our 11 school sponsored clubs. Students may choose from such activities as Student Council, Gardening Club, Healthy Helpers, Art, Chorus, Computer Club, Early Act, Safety Patrol, Writing Club, Video Newsmakers, and Yearbook. Children meet before or after school in these clubs.

The Frost School mission statement defines us as a “Community of Learners”.  This philosophy is evident in the many professional development opportunities available to all staff.  In addition, teachers have many opportunities to meet and share professional ideas that further stimulate the Frost School learning environment. Frost School is a special place because of the people who make up our community.   We work together, learn together, and strive to be the best we can be.
