awaiting the 100th day of school, because they will be 100
days smarter! Wow, the Kindergarteners are really busy!

“The path to
peace begins with me by…” |

|
Art Class |
Hallway |
|
The art classes in Chittick are the most fun. Mr. Baron, Mr. McCarthy and Mrs. Denenberg
keep the students happy with great projects and our halls festive with
the students art work.
The art
teachers are working closely with the academic teachers in creating
projects that further student learning. One recent project dealt with
a theme of “Anti-Violence.” The entire staff and students collaborated
together to create a wall against violence. Each student and staff
member created a brick using elements of design. Each unique brick
represents a piece of the wall against violence. The wall is displayed
outside of the library. Each brick starts with “The path to peace
begins with me by…” and the creator adds their own sentiment to
complete the sentence.
Mr. Baron is planning a trip to either the Philadelphia
Museum of Art or the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the 5th
graders later in the school year.
All the Art teachers, Mr. Baron, Mrs. Denenberg and Mr.
McCarthy are so excited to see the creativity in so many talented
young artists here at Chittick |

The Computer Lab |
The Media
Center |
|
 |
 |
|
All classes in Chittick School visit the Media Center once a week. The
students are allowed to borrow books each week. Mrs. Krauss, our Media
Specialist has about 12,000 books to choose from. She teaches the
students about different kinds of books, how they are labeled and how
the Media Center works. Mrs. Krauss reads books to the younger
children. She relates these books to their classroom studies and the
seasons of the school year. She is also connecting the Media Center
curriculum with their classroom curriculum. In grades 3-5 the students
are shown how to use the resources in the Media Center. Classes are
doing research projects and learning literature appreciation.
When the school celebrates a holiday the students read books and go on
web sites to learn
more about them.
Fifth Graders became Star Reporters checkout the Media center Hallway
Display. Second Graders will let us know what they've "read on the
Pumpkin Vine".
Grades 2-5 are introduced to the computer lab through their
Media Center class. With the help of Mrs. Puliafico, Mrs. Krauss
introduces the technology available and develops basic computer
skills. All classes learn how to use Infocentre to search for books in our
library. There is a strong concentration on learning how to do
research using the Internet and network databases with the older
students. Third through fifth grades do Type to Learn
to become accurate typists. The skills the children learn help them to
be good Media Center Citizens.
