East Brunswick Public Schools  |  Kindergarten Registration  Frequently Asked Questions
Children who will be five years old by October 31, 2008 are eligible to register for admission to kindergarten in September 2008. Daytime registration will be held in all of the elementary schools. In addition, one evening registration will be held at each of the elementary schools. You can call transportation at 732-613-6740  to find out the name of the school in your neighborhood. However, registering at a particular school does not guarantee that your child will be placed in that school. Please follow the schedule listed below when choosing a time to register your child. You will not be able to register from March 6-8 unless you follow the alphabetical order stated.

Your child’s original (raised seal) birth certificate, immunization records, and proof of physical examination by a certified physician that has been completed (within 365 days prior to school starting) are required along with proofs of residence. Included in your registration packet will be a medical health appraisal form for your doctor to complete. All required documents must be translated into English.

All registrants must supply:

  • Documentation of Residency

    1. Mortgage/deed or lease contract

    2. Property tax bill if you own your home

    3. One recent utility bill or two if leasing

    4. One other form of identification with an East Brunswick address

  • Birth Certificate (original with raised seal)

  • Immunization records and proof of current physical exam

Registrants living with East Brunswick residents must:

  • Complete a residency form in the Assistant Superintendent's Office (732) 613-6750

  • Provide a notarized letter from the resident that certifies the registrants are living in their residence

  • Resident must supply proof of residency as stated above

To qualify for attendance on an affidavit basis the student must be:

  • Living with the district resident for reasons other than obtaining a free education in the East Brunswick Public Schools

  • The parent of the student must complete an affidavit attesting that the parent is unable to care for the child due to a family or economic hardship

  • Parent and district resident must submit affidavit forms to the Assistant Superintendent (732-613-6750)

Please bring the original documents and a photocopy of each item with you to registration. In order to save time during the process, you may pick up a registration folder at your child’s school the week before registration. Filling out the forms ahead of time and bringing them with you on registration day will hasten the procedure. No child will be considered registered unless all of the forms are complete.

Elementary parents please note: Although students are registered at the school nearest their home, overcrowding in one school may necessitate placement of children in another school in the district. Therefore, the district is unable to reserve space for a student at the time of registration.

During the school year, kindergarten hours are from 9:10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. (morning session) or from 12:50 p.m. to 3:25 p.m. (afternoon session). At registration, you will be asked to state your preference for one of the sessions. While the district tries to honor your request, placement is based on a variety of factors, and we cannot guarantee that your child will receive the preferred session. Session/school assignments will be sent home in August.

A Kindergarten Parent Night will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at Churchill Junior High School, 18 Norton Road, at 7:30 pm. At this time, teachers, principals, and supervisors will provide important information about the Kindergarten curriculum to parents who are new to East Brunswick or who do not have children who have attended Kindergarten in East Brunswick.

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to the East Brunswick Public School System. We hope that the registration process will be the first of many positive experiences. If you have any questions please call Mrs. Beth Warren at (732) 613-6763.
