Does the East Brunswick School District offer a
full-day Kindergarten Program?
No. During the school year, kindergarten
hours are from 9:10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. (morning session) or from 12:50
p.m. to 3:35 p.m. (afternoon session)
Is
child care available for the portion of the day my child is not in
school?
If your child attends the morning
Kindergarten program, you may sign him/her up for The Early Morning
Care program before school starts (fee based). Conversely, if your
child attends the afternoon kindergarten, you may sign him/her up for
ASK, the After School Kids program (fee based).
Where do I get information about the Early Morning and After School
Kids ASK programs?
Please visit the Community Programs section
of the district website
www.ebnet.org or call the
Community Programs department at 732-613-6982.
Can
my child be guaranteed am or pm session?
While the district will try to honor your
request, we cannot guarantee that your child will receive the
preferred session. Our classes are balanced based on many
considerations including gender, student enrollment, and
teacher-student ratio. If you have a session request, please fill out
the session request form which can be found in the registration
packet. A lottery will determine session placement.
My
child will not be 5 years old until after the cut-off date of October
31st. Are there any exceptions for admission?
No, there are no exceptions. If your child
is not five years old by October 31st, they will not be
eligible to attend Kindergarten until the following year. You have
the option of attending a private kindergarten, however. If your
child attends an accredited private kindergarten for a full school
year, they will then be eligible to register for First Grade the
following year. During the first six weeks of school, your child will
be observed to determine that he/she is correctly placed in first
grade.
My
child attended a private kindergarten. Do I need to notify the
district, or do I wait until first grade registration?
You simply register your child for first
grade.
I am
not sure that my child is ready for Kindergarten. Can I elect to wait
another year before starting them in kindergarten?
Yes, this is a personal decision which must
be made based on your child’s needs.
We
are planning to move to East Brunswick soon. Can I register my child
in the district before we have actually resided in East Brunswick?
No. Documentation of residence must be
provided at registration; therefore, your child cannot be registered
until you are residents of East Brunswick. Examples of documentation
of residence and other items necessary to register can be found on the
district’s website.
My
child has already mastered some early learning skills. Will he/she be
bored in Kindergarten?
The kindergarten program in East Brunswick is designed
to meet the needs of all learners. Instruction is differentiated so
that students are challenged on their own level.
If I
miss the initial kindergarten registration period, does that mean that
I won’t get into the school closest to my home?
Registration is an ongoing process. Although
students are registered at the school nearest their home, overcrowding
in one school may necessitate placement of children in another school
in the district.
If
the kindergarten is full, can I be refused for admission into the
district?
No, students will not be denied placement in
kindergarten due to overcrowding. Overcrowding may necessitate
placement of children in another school in the district.
If I
currently have a child enrolled in the East Brunswick Public Schools
do I still need four documents to verify residency?
Yes, all registrants must show documentation
of residence in East Brunswick. |
